Garden Summer Rest

Description

Under intensive production, garden soils can quickly become depleted of nutrients that help grow the delicious, nutrient dense foods we crave. The Garden Summer Rest mix is designed for this exact scenario. Plant this mix during a summer rest period to capitalize on the best growing days of the year and boost soil fertility and suppress weeds.

This diverse mix of summer legumes, grasses, and broadleaves builds soil health and structure while putting fertility back into intensively managed gardens. The mix includes several nitrogen-fixing legumes such as cowpeas, sunn hemp, mung beans, and balady berseem. A diverse array of flowering species like buckwheat, phacelia, and sunflower create a diversity hotspot that’s perfect for pollinators. Pearl millet, flax, and okra round out this excellent green manure mix.

Your garden will thrive after chopping and dropping or incorporating this mix into the soil.

I had my garden tilled and then broadcast spread this seed over the 30 x 30 garden I planned not

I had my garden tilled and then broadcast spread this seed over the 30 x 30 garden I planned not to plant with vegetables, that was about 10 days ago. I haven't seen any growth yet. It is to rain again tomorrow night and Monday so I hope that will get it growing. It has rained on it twice since I planted it. I think I spread it too thick to begin with and spread the last 1/4 thinner. I didn't know how thick to plant it. Instructions on seeding rates and maybe a picture of a square yard seeded at the rate you suggest may be something you could include with the seed, especially for those of us that are planting a small plot. I am anxious too how this all works.
